Save a Life and Save the World

Reflect on the meaning of the statement from the Talmud.  “He who saves one life, it is as though he has preserved the existence of the entire world.”

I like that statement because of the way it says that if someone saves one person it is like he has saved the entire world. I also agree with that statement because it is totally true. If you save a person’s life you are helping the world, and saving  the world too because then that person will survive and probably help others survive too. That person you save makes you mean a lot to the world because then there is a big chance in life going on. I am going to connect this statement to the novel Escaping  into the Night, and how  when a German soldier wanted to kill Batya and Halina and Halina escaped but she came back to save Batya’s life. Reuven also helped save Batya’s life. In fact it was his idea to go back and save Batya. Even though they weren’t really close friends, he knew it mattered to save her life. These are the reasons I like this statement and think it is true.

  1. This is a very philosophical statement. In its simplest essence, it says that saving 1 life is so important that it allows humanity to proceed.

    I think you get it!

  2. I think this is very thoughtful and inspirational. This has kinda a lot of meaning because every person is critical for humanity to keep on growing, and saving one then they can go out and keep spreading humanity. At the same time I think that maybe you went a little to far because I mean yeah one life is important, but if you ever had to choose between one life or 100 life's what would you pick? You have a good idea here, but don't forget that the majority of people is usually always going to be more important than the minority.

  3. I agree with you. My interpretation of this statement is that by preserving the life of someone is like preserving their whole entire world. That person gets to live another day, see the world expand and grow. Your connection makes sense. I think they realized that it is just morally correct to save her life. Her life meant just as much to her as everyone takes their own life. Nobody's life should mean more than another's life. Even though all of their lives were put in danger for that one life, they did what was correct. The world needs more people like that. It allows the world to continue because that person could live on to do greater things. Do you think many of the people in our world would do the same for another person? Even if they don't know them that well.

  4. I really like this quote. It is very much true that by saving one person's life, you are saving the rest of the world. It's like a chain reaction. You save one person's life, and others look up to that and being doing the same thing. As well as that person who you saved. That could really change their life around and create such a great impact that they begin to do so as well. I can connect this to one of the books I am currently reading, Vampire Knight. One of the main characters, Kaname- Sama, saved the life of Zero. Zero then began to save the lives of humans against vampires. It caused such a great impact on Zero. I admire and look up to that very much.
